The main ingredient in Seaweed Center products, Seaweed, is a powerful anti-oxidant that also works well in conjunction with other natural ingredients that produce foam. It’s also mildly stringent. Seaweed extracts possess the ability to cleanse the body of toxic chemicals and waste – and strengthen hair follicles.

Fragrances; coffee/cinnamon, clove, turmeric, lime, ylang-ylang, udi

Among the available fragrances, the blend of Coffee and Cinnamon combines the healing properties of Coffee that can mend skin, soothe irritations and revitalize cells, with the benefits of Cinnamon that include the ability to stimulate the appetite, improve happiness and positivity.

Among the available fragrances, Lime encourages relaxation while also helping to reduce high blood pressure. Lime combats the build-up of fatty acids in blood vessels that can lead the atherosclerosis.

The Seaweed Center is a socially responsible business that provides dozens of female seaweed farmers in Paje, Zanzibar with opportunities to improve their personal standard of living and develop economic activities that benefit the entire community. The Seaweed Center is led by local management, backed by Swedish and Danish business advisors.

Body Scrubs

Body scrubs are produced for usage in spa treatments – moisturizers for use as a sunburn treatment and mosquito repellant.

Body scrub fragrances; coffee/cinnamon, seaweed/lemon grass, aloe vera

Among the body scrub fragrances, Aloe Vera is high in nutritional value and rich in healing compounds and minerals. Aloe extract is gaining in popularity the world over for the benefits it provides in treating burns, bites, eczema, dermatitis, acne and psoriasis.

Moisturizing cream fragrances; ylang-ylang, aloe vera

Among the moisturizing cream fragrances, Ylang-Ylang is an essential oil used in aromatherapy, Ylang Ylang is believed to relieve high blood pressure and normalize sebum secretion for skin problems.

Seaweed Center Women Today

Smiles wash over the faces of women tending their seaweed beds as easily as the waves roll towards shore in the village of Paje, Zanzibar. Even though their arms and backs strain from the manual labor, as members of the Seaweed Center, the women find strength in the knowledge that they will be fairly compensated. For the first time, for many of them, their efforts have real value.

The determination and pride shared by the women of the Seaweed Center is unmistakable. The opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their families, makes an average workday lasting 10 hours or more easier to bear. Laughter rides lightly on the ocean breeze as bundles of seaweed are hoisted out of the water and onto heads and shoulders. These are the first steps that begin the transformation of seaweed from raw ingredient to finished products.

The vast majority of women who are members of the Seaweed Center Society grew up within shouting distance of where they stand together today. Their life stories are filled with chapters of hardship. Few have received more than an elementary education. Too many to easily count are separated from their husbands by unfortunate circumstances, or if they’ve been treated badly, have personally chosen to make a fresh start in life.
